Tuition Protection Services (TPS)

Statement of tuition assurance

Statement

The Tuition Protection Service (TPS) is an initiative of the Australian Government to assist international and domestic higher education students whose education providers are unable to fully deliver their program of study.

Purpose

Southern Academy of Higher Education (SAHE) will meet the tuition assurance requirements in accordance with the ESOS Act 2000 and the Higher Education Support Act 2003. SAHE is committed to joining the TPS to protect students if SAHE ceases to provide a program of study in which a student is enrolled. SAHE is committed to ensuring that students are protected and are eligible for a refund of the unused portion of any prepaid tuition fees (i.e. tuition for which they have paid but which has not yet been delivered) rather than a full refund, in recognition of the fact that they may obtain credit for the study already completed. Additionally, SAHE has a teach out agreement with Southern Cross Institute (SCI) to ensure that students are not disadvantaged by any discontinuation of services and provides an efficient transfer process in order to meet regulatory requirements monitored by TEQSA. For further details, please refer to the Program Discontinuation and Teach-Out Policy and the Refund Policy.

Tuition Protection Service Guarantee

The TPS ensures that students are able to either:

  • Complete their studies in another program or with another education provider or
  • Receive a refund of their unspent tuition fees.

If SAHE cannot deliver the program a student has paid for, the TPS will help the student find another program with minimal disruption to their studies. The TPS will use an online placement service to give the student all the information they need so they understand their options and can choose an alternative course that best suits them. Support in using the system will be available to students if they need it. If a student is unable to find a suitable alternative program, the TPS will refund the tuition fees that have been paid, for the part of the program that they have not yet received.
Students are required to follow the step-by-step process outlined below:
