The aim of the SAHE Bachelor of Business program is to provide students with the broad and coherent knowledge and competencies necessary to develop critical, analytical and evaluative skills essential for a fulfilling an effective career in business.

The Bachelor of Business (Accounting Major) will provide students with key business principles and the relevant practical skills which can be applied broadly in the increasingly dynamic and global accounting environment. This program encompasses taxation, auditing, and consultancy skills, supported by knowledge of associated disciplines of law, economics, finance and statistics.

Upon graduation, students will have established the financial skills, analytical skills, and organisational skills required in every business and will be able to apply professional judgment when preparing, analysing, and interpreting financial information. Successful completion of the Bachelor of Business (Accounting Major) may qualify for entry into graduate programs offered by higher education institutions in Australia that requires Bachelor of Business as an entry requirement.

As part of their specialisation study, SAHE graduates of Bachelor of Business (Accounting Major) is structured to meet the prerequisites for eligibility to apply for the membership of professional bodies in the accounting area such as CPA Australia, the Chartered Accountants of Australia, and New Zealand, and/or the Institute of Public Accountants.

  1. Communicate persuasively across business cultures and the boundaries of the professional sub-disciplines within the business management domain;
  2. Effectively collaborate with others from diverse cultural and disciplinary backgrounds by exhibiting understanding and respect for cultural and interpersonal differences;
  3. Evaluate and demonstrate judgement in formulating responses to complex, social, cultural and ethical issues;
  4. Demonstrate in-depth discipline knowledge through the application of theory and skills in solving real-world business problems;
  5. Critically evaluate information from relevant sources to create value in business decision-making;
  6. Apply discipline knowledge in an interdisciplinary setting to address a broad range of challenges and opportunities within the business.

It is expected that all SAHE graduates will:

  • Be able to communicate efficiently, both orally and in writing, to a wide variety of audiences;
  • Be able to liaise, cooperate, and work effectively with others;
  • Be able to identify and solve problems both creatively and in a structured and methodical way;
  • Be able to understand and identify ethical problems and demonstrate ethical behaviour;
  • Be able to critically analyse and compare various approaches to problems.

A graduate of the Bachelor of Business (Accounting Major) will have skills, industry knowledge, and in-depth knowledge of business management principles in practice. Students will be eligible to apply for the following entry-level roles:

Bachelor of Business (Accounting Major) program consists of:

  • 3 years full-time, face to face classroom-based teaching delivered over 6 semesters
  • no work-based training involved
  • each semester will run over 15 weeks (6 weeks delivery + 1-week break + 6 weeks delivery + 2 weeks examinations).
  • 24 units, full time load 4 units per semester
  • each unit has 4 contact hour per week comprising lectures, tutorial and consultation components
  • for each contact hour a minimum of 2 hours of independent study is expected. 4 contact hours + 8 independent study = 12 hours workload per unit per week
  • full-time workload: 4 courses x 12 hours per unit = 48 hours per week
  • 12 credit points (cps) per unit (1 credit point per hour)
  • 288 credit points to complete the program

All applicants (domestic and international) must be 18 or older at the time of enrolment to SAHE undergraduate programs.

Domestic Students

Domestic students must meet any one of the following minimum academic entry requirements to be eligible for admissions in the Academy’s undergraduate programs:

completion of Year 12- Secondary Education with attainment of a minimum 60 ATAR or equivalent;

successful completion of approved higher education study, including approved preparation courses e.g., Tertiary Preparation Program or Tertiary Orientation Program or equivalent, 1 year of university studies, Certificate IV, or a Foundation Year Program through an accredited institution of higher education offered at:

  • Australian Universities
  • TAFE Institutes
  • Government approved Registered Training Organisations (RTO)
  • satisfactory completion of mathematics (Year 12 level or equivalent) subjects such as General Mathematics; or Mathematical Methods; or Specialist Mathematics; or any other Mathematics subjects.

 

International Students

International students must meet any one of the following minimum academic entry requirements to be eligible for admissions in the Academy’s undergraduate programs IN ADDITION to meeting minimum English Language requirements:

  • completion of the secondary education qualification (national or international) equivalent to the NSW Higher School Certificate with attainment of a minimum 60 ATAR or equivalent;
  • approved higher education study, including approved preparation courses from Tertiary Preparation Program, Tertiary Orientation Program or equivalent, a Foundation Year Program through an accredited institution of higher education offered at:
  • Australian Universities
  • TAFE Institutes
  • Government approved Registered Training Organisations (RTO)
  • satisfactory completion of mathematics (Year 12 level or equivalent) subjects such as General Mathematics; or Mathematical Methods; or Specialist Mathematics; or any other Mathematics subject.
  • Entry Based On Employment Experience

 

Students may be admitted based on Recognition of Prior Learning or relevant employment history. The Academy will assess those admission applications based on the professional skills, and duration and relevance of work experience. SAHE may require referee reports for entry based on criteria in this category.

Mature Age Applicants

Mature age applicants who do not meet the minimum entry requirements of the Academy may be eligible for admissions if:

  • they are 21 or older on 1 March of the year they intend to start study;
  • do not have an ATAR (or equivalent result) for admission to any program; do not have a record of tertiary study.

 

Mature age applicants will be assessed on either recent academic achievement (e.g., Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) or on recent work experience. Decisions will also be based on skills and likelihood to succeed with tertiary study. The offer will be made only if the Dean is assured the applicant has a reasonable expectation to succeed in the program on the basis of their portfolio submission.

2. Proof of English Language standard through English Language Test results, or

1. Prior Education in English 
a. Successful completion of one year of tertiary study in Australia (Diploma, Foundation or Higher Education);
b. Successful completion of a Certificate IV in a related field at an Australian institution;
c. Successful completing of the International Baccalaureate (IB) English B Standard Level grade 5 or above, English Higher Level (A1 or A2) grade 4 or above;
d. Students from the English Speaking countries who have citizenship or permanent long-term residency (minimum ten years) or have completed senior secondary study or at least one year of full-time university study in one of these countries and the language in which the qualification was undertaken was English

2. Proof of English Language standard through English Language Test results
a. English language proficiency test results must have been attained no more than two years before the date of application.

3. Completion of English language courses
a. Applicants can demonstrate proficiency in English if they have completed English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) program with an accredited provider before being admitted to the Academy. Certificates of competency must be shown.
b. International students without the required level of English at the time of application will be required to satisfactorily complete an appropriate English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) program with an accredited provider before being admitted to the Academy.

None, other than as specified in the entry requirements

Students may apply for recognition of prior learning in respect of study undertaken in the previous 5 years for learning relevant the degree. Students must fill out the recognition of Prior learning form and ensure all needed supporting evidence is provided.

The maximum amount of credit which normally applies for prior studies assessed as comparable and equivalent to the program is fixed. The actual credit granted may be less than the maximum possible if the prior studies do not match core units or are not assessed as comparable and equivalent. The prior study gained at and below Certificate IV levels is not considered comparable and equivalent.
